THE
STINGAREE
OF
1955

M,fd,e/1

FOREWORD
So many nice things happen in the life of a Texas City teen-ager that we, the annual staff, have tried to
capture the excitement of high school life in this our yearbook of 1955 . In later years , as you glance over
the pages of the Stingaree, you will be reunited with your friends and classmates: you will cheer on your
football, basketball, and baseball teams: you will thank your wonderful counselors and teachers for the
advice and knowledge which they passed on to you: you will re -enact the good times that you had
working with the organizations and clubs: you will smile sadly as you recall activities that you will never
forget; you will hear the echo of the prize-winning band and the well -blended choir : you will once again
feel the heart-breaking excitement of graduation: you will know the anticipation that you felt every
Friday as you received your "Stingaree Tales:" and you will remember the sessions in the halls and
classrooms dedicated to the "signing of the annuals." Thus, you can fully realize the purpose of this yearbook-to preserve the happy memories of Texas City High School

SILHOUE~E OF HAPPINESS
By Jan ice Quarles

A silhouette of happiness,
A silhouette of fun,
The memory of a precious day
Shared with a certain one.
A cheering, yelling football crowd.
A bravely fighting team,
A night of victory for our Stings.
To give homecoming gleam .
A lively . boisterous picnic group,
A park of sun and shade,
Another memory for this book
Which will not ever fade .
A dance upon a floating cloud,
With music soft and sweet.
Pictures of the great occasion
To give old age a treat.
It is with thoughts for happiness ,
We dedicate with glee,
To members of the senior class
This booh of memory.

Amid all the slush and mud of a
cold rain swept field the Stingarees
showed some 800 loyal fans who
braved the driving rain that they can
win in rough weather as they came

A MUDDY VICTORY

BOYDSTON MAKES FIRST DOWN

TEXAS CITY 14 - PORT
NECHES 46
Although the wild Port Neches
Indians outscored the gallant Stings
by 46-14 in the championship game,
they couldn ' t outfight them. Every
Stingaree gave all he had and no one
quit. Even late in the fourth quarter,
they were still in there fighting although victory was hopeless.

THE RIGHT COMBINATION
Of atoms makes up a molecule of a useful material- in the picture you can see
the atomic makeup of aspirin. Scientists who know what they are d o in g , working
with the right raw materials and equipment under the right co nditions, are
able to make acetylsalicylic acid ( aspirin ) synthetically .
The right combination also works in education . Put together interested parents ,
the right students , the right teachers , in a free atmosphere, and you come up
with an American citizen. A citizen who is able to make the right decision s,
make a good living for his family, and to enjoy the blessings of the American
Way of Life.
Texas City High School is to be congratulated for hitting upon the right com bination .

WORDS TO LIVE BY-

MY CREED
I do not choose to be a common man. It is my right to be
uncommon-if I can. I seek., opportunity--not security. I
do not wish to be a k._ept citizen, humbled and dulled by
having the state loo/{ after me. I want to tak.,e the calcw
lated risk._; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I
refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I pref er the cha!,
Ieng es of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of
fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia. I will not trade
freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I
will never cower before any master nor bend to any
threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think., and act for myself. enjoy the benefit of
my creations and to face the world boldly and say: This
I have done. All this is what it means to be an American.
