0 San Antonio - 0

The Stingarees went to San Antonio ready for a victory. Their tremendous effort paid off, for although
the Stings did not score they held the third rated team in the State scoreless. The Rebels expected very
little trouble from the Stings, but soon realized that the Texas City bunch had been greatly underestimated.
The Stingaree spirit was raging and the boys were ready to make their bid for the 12-4A championship.

Smiley - 0
Texas City had no trouble in beating Smiley of
Houston in Stingaree Stadium. The running of Maurice
Mascarro paid off with a Sting touchdown on the first
play of the second quarter. The next offensive effort
started at the Sting twenty yard line. Mascorro tried
the center for a gain of three yards, then Mike Drake
threw a pass to Ken Gritta at the forty and he ran
the. rest of the way for a touchdown. The attempt by
Drake to pass for the extra points failed. In the last
quarter, Drake intercepted a Smiley pass and ran fifty
yards for the third Stingaree touchdown of the game.

Texas City O vs South Houston 28
South Houston's scrappy Trojans thoroughly trounced the Texas City Stingarees 28-0. To start off the
action the Trojans and Stings traded the ball back and forth. South Houston scored three times in the
second quarter. After the Stings' rude awakening in the first half, they came bounding back to play the
catch-up game. Texas City showed that fighting spirit when Strange hit David Hart and Wyatt for a total of
34 yards and ran the ball himself for 9 more, only to have the drive run out on the Trojan 17. As the game
endt:d, the South Houston Trojans marched off the field with a victory.

The first half of the ball game

only bright spot of the game came

Mike Casey, Mike Drake, Jack

District Honorable Mention

In a very exciting game, the Ball High Tors outlasted
Texas City to score a 27-18 win in the evenly matched contest.
The Stings and Ball High failed to move the ball on their
initial series in the game. Mascorro started the push with a
21 yard scamper and later plunged over for the score. After
two attempts, the Stings failed to secure the extra points.
The Tors evened the count midway in the second quarter
in a 62 yard drive. The turning point in the game came when
a Tor intercepted one of Mike Casey's aerial endeavors. Two
plays later Tor quarterback Mike Hoover sneaked across for
the score and the kick was good. As time ran out the scoreboard glowed with a dull light for Texas City fans.

and one half inches of rain had already fallen in the stadium.
The ballgame was
Texas City's all the
way but a missed extra point in the third
quarter
left
the
Stings behind, and
the fumbled field
goal iced the victory
for La Marque, and
spoiled the TCHS
homecoming 14-13.
10,000
plus
fans
braved the rain to
witness one of the
most
spectacular
football games of the
1966 football season.

Texas City 22 vs Deer Park 14
Texas City's persistent Stingarees closed the 1966 football season with a bang as they walloped Deer Park
22-14. It was the Sting's ball game all the way, even the enclosing fog couldn't stop them. Maurice Mascorro exhibited his running ability when he streaked 54 yards for the first T. C. touchdown. On the final play
of the first half, Deer quarterback,
Dale Thorpe, attempted to pass, but
he faded too deep and Allen Wilkenfeld shot through in the end zone for
a safety and 2 more points to give
the Stings an 8-0 halftime lead. The
Stings scored again following the
Deer kickoff and Eddie Dahl kicked
the extra point. Doug Wyatt, Mike
Drake, and Mascorro put together
the final T. C. score, Dahl's kick
was true and the Stings had the victory 22-14.

Marathon Oil helps
to build the future
as it grows.
Looking ahead helps a company to grow
wisely. We know that as we build our
future we are helping to build tomorrow's
world. Exploring for oil on five continents,
producing oil or gas in 22 states in the
U.S. and two other countries, we are
developing a great natural resource. Our
three U.S. refineries and two partly
owned plants in Europe transform crude
oil into useful products. Thousands of
miles of pipelines move our crude oil and
refined products where they are needed.
And selling our products through 3,700
Marathon service stations in the
American midwest, plus hundreds more
in Italy and West Germany, helps to
supply the motive power that keeps the
modern world on the move.
